Rhyming

As Mark Twain may or may not have said, "History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme."

Other things rhyme, too. Lives, for example. Music, even the kind without words. And, it is to be hoped, essays, even when they appear in the form of blog posts.

This post has no new wisdom. It is designed simply to bring some rhyme, which is after all a form of coherence, to this blog in this new year.

So. Here it is.

People who tell me to smile deserve defenestration (theirs) with alacrity (mine).

Edits: Before anyone interprets this as a threat against a Homeland Security officer, note that "defenestration" doesn't automatically imply the intent to kill. Just to throw someone through that little window.
