Seriously: Please Please Please

Last night, a character on the TV show House committed suicide. The entertainment world is abuzz about it today. Some criticize the plot point; some praise it. Whatever. It's a story.

Here in the real world, a student in the local College's aviation program stole an airplane from the Thunder Bay Airport. He flew south, ending up at the southern border of Missouri. He picked up an escort, two F-16s, at the Wisconsin/Michigan border. Although he was apparently aware of the presence of the fighters, he didn't respond to radio communication. They didn't bring him down. He landed at the intersection of two highways and was taken into custody without incident. If suicide was his aim, he was unsuccessful.

In 2005, the last year for which official statistics are available, more than 3700 Canadians committed suicide. Too many.
