Many Canadian and American holidays are roughly analogous: Armistice Day/Veterans Day, Christmas, New Year's Day, etc. There are, of course, a few exceptions: no President's Day up here, for obvious reasons. No July 4 celebration up here, ditto--but we have a similar celebration July 1.
One of the most different holidays is Thanksgiving. If I lived 50 miles south, today I'd be stuffing myself with turkey and dozing in front of football games (or coming up with something holiday-ish to do that I actually enjoy). But up here, today is pretty much a day like any other.
However, today is a good day to be thankful--as is every day. This year, I'm particularly grateful not to be an only child. The photo shows the rest of my family, having fun before I was born.
