Case in point:

I didn't happen to take the first shot of the fox, but I have several like it--of loons, mostly. Also a few deer.
The phrase "wasted film" loses more meaning every day. So the lesson--just let it go, will ya?--might be difficult to learn. What's the harm in trying for the shot, even if you fail? I mean, if you get it, what a great shot!!
Unless you're trying so hard for the shot that you never see the fox/loon/deer.
